Instructor(s):
This course provides an introduction to quantitative history as it is currently practiced by historians and social scientists. Through lectures and readings, students will become familiar with selected problems in political, economic, and demographic history and the kinds of data, research designs, and quantitative techniques used to analyze them. Particular emphasis will be placed upon the ways quantitative historians conceptualize change over time. Students will have an opportunity to do their own statistical analysis on the computer using data furnished by ICPSR.
