Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research

Welcome

Welcome to the ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research!

Founded in 1963, the ICPSR Summer Program is recognized throughout the world as the preeminent forum for basic and advanced training in the methodologies and technologies of social science research. We serve a diverse multidisciplinary and international constituency. Our general instructional philosophy emphasizes the integration of methodological strategies with the theoretical and practical concerns that arise in research on substantive social issues. The ICPSR Summer Program also creates a unique and supportive social environment that facilitates professional networking and encourages the exchange of ideas about the theory and practice of social science research.

2009 ICPSR Summer Program

The 2009 ICPSR Summer Program has been a great success! Our first five-day workshop began on May 18 and our last three-day workshop ended on August 25. The two four-week sessions ran from June 22 through July 17, and from July 20 through August 14.

  • Our faculty consisted of 93 instructors and we offered a total of 60 courses on a wide variety of methodological and substantive topics.
  • The Hubert M. Blalock Lecture Series presented 14 sets of lectures on statistical methods, substantive topics, and issues in professional development.
  • The 2009 ICPSR Summer Program had a total of 814 participants.

2010 ICPSR Summer Program

We have already started planning for the 2010 Summer Program. Most of the four-week statistical and substantive courses from the 2009 schedule will be offered again in 2010. Similarly, we anticipate that many of the three- to five-day workshops on statistical topics will appear again on the 2010 schedule. However, the three- to five-day substantive workshops tend to change from year to year; we will provide information as soon as it is available.

  • The first four-week session in the 2010 ICPSR Summer Program will run from June 21, 2010 through July 16, 2010.
  • The second four-week session in the 2010 ICPSR Summer Program will run from July 19, 2010 through August 13, 2010.
  • Additional Summer Program courses (in shorter, three- and five-day formats) will be offered from the beginning of June through the end of August, in a variety of locations across the country, as well as in Ann Arbor.
  • We will begin posting information about the 2010 ICPSR Summer Program course list and schedule in December 2009.
